The year 2020 is almost coming to end of what feels simultaneously like the shortest and longest year ever. As time moves on, it is hard to imagine the reality we once had. This new normal has created a universal shift in our mindset on how we view the world around us and each other, for better or for worse.

The bad news is that in the past 8 months we’ve seen the crumbling of an industry that employed millions of people around the United States and with no end in sight, an industry that will now take years to rebuild to where it was.

In the music and the live events industry, those who were hit the hardest and who have been the first to close down are independently owned venues who can no longer afford to stay shut until it is safe to open. Sadly, this reality has already begun in major cities across the US like San Francisco and will continue to happen unless we do something.

The good side of the pandemic is our strong desire to survive and help those around us. Through the darkness of the layers of society that have been peeled back, what has been known is that if we stand together we can achieve great things and make the impossible happen.

So why should people care about independently owned venues?

First, independent venues are the backbone of the music industry giving artists, performers & promoters a chance when no one else will. This is where artists learn to be artists and grow with their communities. This is where promoters connect their visions with like minded crowds. This is how careers for every single artist and performer starts.

In SF especially, the community of local venues and artists make one of the strongest and most inspiring scenes in the country. It’s small in comparison to somewhere like LA or NYC but San Francisco specifically is known for its rich history and passion for music. Here, the small dance music scene made of individuals here have stepped up to the plate to help each other in a way that is not being mimicked anywhere else in the world.

Revive The Night is a product of community coming together to work with each other to help secure a future for the music we love in the city. During the weekend of December 3-6, 2020 they will host a fundraiser event showcasing 11 venues, DJs, live artists, interviews, history & more. Their goal is to raise as much funds for the independently owned dance floors to support artists, staff, & our entire underground dance music scene who are suffering right now amidst the pandemic.

Participating venues: 1015 Folsom, Audio, F8, Gray Area, Halcyon, Monarch, Public Works, The Great Northern, The Stud, Underground SF and Vinyl Dreams.
