Sophie Baker’s newest work is an exploration of projections on folded surfaces and how variations in the folds can distort her graphic patterns and motifs. With carefully curated DJs selected by Sophie, the opening event was set to atmospheric electro grooves from 3Li and Femmelectric at the shop. Afterwards, we strolled next door to EZ5 for an After Party featuring CFK & Onemohit 10-2am. Food and wine, music and art! It was great seeing everyone there!
Sophie Baker is one of the Bay Area’s hottest and most accomplished VJs & Motion Designers. Her vibrant, abstract work has come to be widely known and loved around the local club scene, creating visual landscapes for dancers as they move through late night excursions of sound.
Her creations have made countless appearances at soirées around Northern California, but Sophie has also taken her work on the road to cities like LA and Detroit. She has also done countless collaborations with the likes of Sunset Soundsystem, Jensen Interceptor, Ardalan, Sepehr, and more.
Sophie’s artistic process involves layering her unique animations in real time using VDMX. The walls of a dance floor become her canvas, manipulating the pacing, colors and other effects to evolve with the music.
Hard geometric lines, glitching, and fully saturated digital colors encompass Sophie’s recognizable style that continues to explore “organic movement with nonorganic shapes”.
