Fault Radio Label Spotlight: Perfect Location
Rising up from the Bay Area underground and beyond, Perfect Location Records has emerged with a unique format and a mission to expose quality talent to the world. Owned, operated & conceived by Evelyn Malinowski aka Experimental Housewife, PLR is primarily a digital label dedicated to releasing electronic music, emphasizing (as their mission statement reads) “communal cross-pollination, experimental mediums, and the impermanence of how we listen”.
Malinowski has curated a year’s worth of digital releases - 24 in total - which then get distilled into four seasonal 12” vinyl issues - compilations that take one track from each digital EP, with a final compilation - titled Perfect Collection - as the label’s final release.
Checking the PLR discography reads like a who’s who of Bay Area technofolk - from the first release by SF’s Roche (100% Silk/Hobo Camp) to subsequent jams from the likes of Brooke Keller’s Gayphextwin project (Jacktone), Elexos Park of hot SF club night Vague Terrain, new SF-Berlin transplant Lily Ackerman, up & coming dancefloor sorceress Bleie and DJ-about-town Mo Kudeki.
International connections include releases from Jason “BPMF” Szostek, whose 20+ year career has seen him collab with John Selway, Denver’s Roy England (Make Mistakes), CMD from Montreal (basic_sounds/Jacktone) and more.
Meant to play like a mixtape, the discography as a whole is worth checking in chronological order as Malinowski intended. Floating in between genres from ambient to techno with stops along the way, PLR manages to stay consistently eclectic while adhering to her original vision - much like a good mixtape.
