Fault Radio Label Spotlight: Lips & Rhythm
Launched in 2014 by wife - & - husband duo Soleil Kellar & Jesse Sizmo, Lips & Rhythm releases music inspired by the couple's international travels in warmer climates and the close relationships made along the way.
Balearic in its eclecticism, L & R's tropical aesthetic is both philosophy and misdirection, as the label eschews the chillout trajectory of similarly-decorated imprints with one foot always on the dancefloor and a DJ's sensibility - all but one L&R edition has been pressed on vinyl.
The globe-hopping vibe permeates each release with Italy (Brine & Jimbo), Colombia (Bruno & Polinne), Ibiza (Jupiter Liberation Front) and, of course, the Bay Area all getting inside. The label's bosses also appear both live and on wax as Birds of Rhythm, channeling their myriad influences into a coherent concept. True to form, their upcoming 7 ”release by Jimbo is a hip-hop two-tracker with Massive Attack comparisons and a keen ear for what's happening now.
