NICE NUMBERS 01 | 909 PLAYLIST BY NOCTUARY SF

We invited Noctuary SF for a Fault Radio special on Sep 09 and to celebrate the occasion we asked Alex McGeagh, Mo Kudeki, and Eugenia Puglisi  to create for us a special playlist using only tracks which have the TR 909.

ENERGY FLASH (R&S RECORDS, 1990) | JOEY BELTRAM

From Nina Kraviz to Josey Rebelle - I've never seen this one not land on a dancefloor. Hard to find a more growly 909-forward track than this. -Alex

ACPERIENCE (HARTHOUSE, 1992) | HARDFLOOR

Most people might notice the great 303 stabs in this track, but I think the drum patterns/percussion really give this ravey track the backbone it deserves. -Alex

FUNKY SOULS - (DRAMA/RUSH HOUR, 1996) | FLOORPLAN

The 909 is a sort of calling card of Detroit techno and house, and few better to represent than Robert Hood - this is his debut with his Floorplan project (pre-addition-of-Lyric-Hood, though) -Alex

I AM RUNNING ALL MY DRUM MACHINES AT ONCE AND DANCING (UNCANNY VALLEY, 2015) | MASSIMILIANO PAGLIARA

Not sure on all the drum machines represented here but a 909 is certainly in the mix. A friend showed me this one earlier this year because of the cute name, plus I've been playing Massimiliano Pagliara tracks in many of my sets lately. -Kudeki

1.1 (DAME-MUSIC, 2016) | BLOODY MARY & ATTAN

Bloody Mary has a TR-909 in her studio and uses it on most tunes. I've been super digging her acid/ravey techno style as of late. Modern production quality / old-school vibes. -Kudeki

ON AND ON (FFRR, 1992) | ORBITAL - HALCYON

90s UK classic that never stops giving me feels... Hack the planet!!! -Kudeki

DAYSDAYS (WOLF MUSIC, 2018) | MOOMIN

A smooth groovy house jam. I discovered this lovely Moomin album over the summer while I was in Sicily and felt so satisfied with those clean hats and lush chords. Apparently also goes over well at cocktail hour. -Eugenia

A TOUCH OF JAZZ / LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH REMIX (DANCE MANIA, 1992) | RHYTHM II RHYTHM

Pure smiles on this one. I have also been playing it all summer - I chose this because of how warm and playful it was, while still remaining upbeat and driving. Was shown to me by a darling human at Childsplay records in London, who always drops me the ideal tunes for the mood I’m in. -Eugenia

HALL OF MIRRORS (WARP RECORDS, 1993) | B12

These guys used both an 808 and 909 and here, but the hats, rims, and claps are distinctively 909. I chose this because I love B12 and in particular this album, Electro-Soma, is a 90s masterpiece. Clean and harmonic, just how I like it. -Eugenia
