Mashi Mashi

DJ Mashi Mashi hails all the way from Minsk, Belarus where she was raised on a diet of sleazy Euro disco and classic rock. Fast-forward twenty something years, Mashi ended up on the West Coast of California, diggin' deep through crates at Amoeba and finding the sweetest deals at KUSF's Rock n Swap, California's largest record fair and a mecca for vinyl junkies.

Mashi Mashi's path through San Francisco's storied music scene has taken her from jamming out on airwaves at college radio station KUSF to booking local bands as "Mashi Mashi Presents" (showcasing genre-bending visionary bands and live analog visuals) to joining the crew of San Francisco’s finest Italo disco party Galaxy Radio. When playing as part of GR, Mashi's picks range from Spanish Italo to French 80's pop and minimal wave to queer disco, and almost always feature a track by Italo disco god Fred Ventura. When not performing for GR, you can often find Mashi spinning in-between bands in various Bay Area venues or inside art galleries, weaving in a sonic tapestry of postpunk, synthpop, space disco, kraut, psych, goth, coldwave, and other eclectic oddities from funk to punk and beyond.
